For more than a decade, CSM has been working to promote and mainstream sustainable agricultural practices in India. Through field research; direct work on Organic and Fair Trade agriculture with farmers and farmer organisations; facilitating market linkages based on sustainable agricultural practices and raising consumer and business awareness about the need for supporting sustainable agriculture- CSM has been directly involved with multiple stakeholders in this vital sector.
CSM has been one of the early supporters in recognising and promoting the Ecosystem Services (ES) being provided by the agro-forestry and sustainable cultivation practices being followed by the coffee planters and growers in the Western Ghats. The publication Coffee To Go has been a vital start in undertaking a literature review and doing pilot field research in Karnataka for evaluating and measuring the additional environmental benefits generated by bio-diverse agro-forestry by the coffee growers.
CSM has been working with farming communities across the states of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Kerala providing technical training and inputs for promoting the adoption of Organic Agricultural practices.
CSM has been an instrumental partner in building Fairtrade market linkages in India. CSM has been supporting farmers from across the country get better access to fairer markets in return for their commitment to following the Fairtrade model of sustainable agriculture.
