Project CRREA in collaboration with its partner Jontu, has started the first nursery of 500 saplings in B.R.Hills, Karnataka.
The nursery is made up of indigenous tree species- Eliocarpus serratus (Bikkilu Mara), Syzygium cumini (Nerela Mara), Ficus racemosa (Athi Mara) and is being maintained by the local community members. Once the saplings grow to a suitable level they would be distributed to the community members who would plant it on their coffee farms to promote biodiversity. Once the saplings mature, the farmers and local animals would also benefit from the fruits and the leaf litter that is the primary source of organic fertiliser for their farms.
